Peggy was born in Wichita Falls on July 29, 1932 to James Robert Knox and Bessie Freeman Knox. She earned her bachelors degree at Midwestern State University. She worked as a seamstress at SAFB, where she met Robert F. Hunter while sewing patches on his uniforms. He became the love of her life and they soon married, and began their life together in Wichita Falls. Three children were born to this union: Robert, June and Howard. She spent her career teaching in the Wichita Falls Independent School District.
Peggy was known as a quiet and private person, content to work on jigsaw puzzles in her leisure time. She was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed sewing her own clothes. The simple things in life made her happy, and she loved beautiful flowers and the color purple. Above all, she loved and cherished her husband and her children, and was a dedicated wife and mother.
Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2008, her parents, and brothers and sisters.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Hunter and wife Margo, June Taylor and Howard Hunter, and two grandchildren.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 1-2. Interment will follow at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial park.
