

Art passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Tess Wyss; sons, Jayden and Kenneth Wyss; and other family and friends in Wichita, Kansas. He was born to Bertie June (Erickson) and Arthur Earnest Wyss Sr. on November 17, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas.
Art met Marites “Tess” Bayal Wyss through a corresponding letter called “Penpal” which they found through the Hunting Magazine. They were married in the Municipal Hall of San Fernando Cebu City, Philippines on July 12, 1993, and celebrated their union with their families and friends. Their wedding day was incredibly special, and they were both so happy, Art for having found the love of his life and Tess for having found the man of her dreams. They honeymooned at Park Place Hotel in Cebu City, in the Philippines. They had tried for over 16 years to conceive a child and finally, in December of 2008, they were blessed with a miracle son named Jayden Christian Wyss, who is now 17 years old. He also has a son from a previous relationship named Kenneth Wyss. Art and Tess spent a magical 33 years together until February 5, 2026, at 3:22 in the morning, when the Angels took him home.
In 1968 Art joined the Marine Corps. He served his time in Vietnam and held many positions in his military career. He was a volunteered Sherriff Officer and he used to work for a security company. He was a part of the 1st Combined Action Group and the Third Marine Amphibious Fleet in Quang Tri Vietnam. He ended his enlistment as Cpl. Arthur E. Wyss Jr. with an honorable discharge in 1972.
Art worked in aircraft for 33 years. He worked for Boeing, Cessna, Raytheon and Learjet. He retired as a Metal Fabrication Crew Leader in 2012 after holding the position for 18 years.
Art attended the St. Peter Catholic Church and earned the honor of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved to volunteer at the school lunches. He did this for 6 years before becoming totally wheelchair bound. He loved to help the children at the school. Art loved people and loved to help his friends. He was the life of the party, had the best personality and would always offer help to others without hesitation. He had a big heart, was loving and caring and was a devoted husband and father.
Art loved to watch westerns and sci-fi shows and movies. He also enjoyed KC football, hunting, fishing, dancing and singing karaoke with his wife and son. His love for the Philippines had him travel there 12 different times between 1992 and 2012.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Bertie (Erickson) and Arthur Wyss Sr. and brothers, Albert Wyss and Walter Wyss. He is survived by his loving wife, Tess Wyss; sons, Jayden Wyss and Kenneth Wyss; brothers, Edward (Susan) Wyss and Martin (Kathy) Wyss; sister, Diane (Todd) Peterson; many nieces and their children, and of course, his beloved dog, Snowy Wyss.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 4 pm – 8 pm with rosary at 6 pm and funeral mass on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:30 am, all at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11000 W. Blvd., Wichita, Kansas, 67215. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name and loving memory with the church.
