Barbara was born December 25, 1922 in Maize, Kansas to John and Rosa Faber. In 1943 Barbara married Matthias Newman and they made their home in Wichita, Kansas. Barbara was a homemaker and a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. After Matt retired, they spent hours on woodworking projects. She enjoyed gardening. Whether growing vegetables to sell or feed the family to her many varieties of beautiful flowers. Quilting and playing the organ were her favorite past times along with traveling. Until the last few years she rarely missed a trip to Tulsa for the annual Octoberfest. We attribute her long life to daily nips of homemade elderberry wine.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, Matthias "Matt" H. Newman; daughter, Pauline A. Newman; son, Philip S. Newman; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
She is survived by her children Virginia (Jon) Nicolet of Wichita, Johnny Newman (Jane- Deceased) of Wichita, Leo Newman (Maria) of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Francis Newman of Wichita, Kathleen (Roger) of Winnsboro, Texas, and Charlotte (Johnny) Pyle of Owasso, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
A rosary service for Barbara will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Church, 132 S. Millwood Avenue, Wichita, KS 67213. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM at St, Joseph Catholic Parish Church, 132 S. Millwood Avenue, Wichita, KS 67213, followed by graveside services at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1824 Oliver Ave., Wichita, Kansas.
