

Burnett, (Bertha) Eileen, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed from this life into the arms of Christ on Thursday, May 24, 2012. She was 90 years young and will be dearly missed by her sons, Gary Hastings (Paula), Chad Hastings (Patricia) both of Wichita, and Bruce Burnett (Janet) of Georgetown, TX. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Robert Hastings (Christine) of Pleasant Hill, MO, Craig Hastings (Juliana) of Wichita, Bryan Hastings of Rochester Hills, MI, and Jennifer Burnett of Georgetown, TX; and 2 great grandchildren, Joshua and Brittany Hastings of Pleasant Hill, MO. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert Burnett; brother, Howard Cessnun and sisters, Helen Wood and Mary Mastin. She was born on a farm in Council Grove, Kansas. During WWII, she moved to Wichita to work at Boeing. With the birth of her first child, she became a full time mother and homemaker. Later, when her children were grown, she returned to the work force and eventually retired from Walls IGA Deli Department. Eileen was very active in her church and its activities. She was an active member in the Sunshine Club, the Catholic Widows Club, Catholic Golden Agers and the Newman Book Club. She was well known for her generosity and skills in helping to prepare meals for grieving families and those with less fortunate health. Her favorite pastimes were dancing and playing cards with her many friends. The celebration of her acceptance into Heaven will be Tuesday, May 29, 9:30 A.M. at the Catholic Care Center, St. Elizabeth Chapel. Graveside services and burial will be held at Resthaven Mortuary immediately following the church service.
