

Canaday, Bettie Eugenia (Shirley) died Wed. Aug 17, 2011. Bettie was born in Kansas City, Mo, Dec 20, 1931 to Samuel “Sam” Oden Shirley & Lila Eugenia Beatrice “Trixie” (Aldridge) Shirley. Bettie married Grant Canaday in Kansas City, Mo on Jun 16, 1951. Together they lived in Lawrence, Ks where she worked to help Grant earn his Petroleum Engineering Degree. Moving from Great Bend & then to Wichita they built their oil & gas company, Canaday Oil Inc. They started their family in Great Bend eventually growing to include four children. As a dedicated wife & mother, Bettie was actively, supportive & encouraging in everything her children did. Through work & play, Grant & Bettie developed many close friends & associates throughout Kansas & beyond. Bettie was a member of Rolling Hills Country Club, Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association, Royal Order Women of the Moose along with several Golf & Dance Clubs & the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Bettie is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Granville “Grant” E. Canaday. Brothers Richard “Dobber” Edmond Shirley & Samuel “Donnie” Oden Shirley Jr. Survivors - Companion: Don Sullivan of Wichita. Children: Dr Lucinda Ann “Cindy” Brothers & fiancée Dr William Full of Wichita; Grant Michael “Mickey” Canaday & wife Lisa; Patrick Timothy Canaday & wife Jean of Valley Center; Shirley Rae Millard & husband Jeff of McPherson. Grandchildren: Bil Brothers, Brooke & Amanda Canaday, Sarah Foster, Tara Chapin & husband Dave, Cade, Keaton & Karlee Canaday, Chris, Patrick & Stephen Millard. Great grandchild: Sage Adelynn Millard. Viewing with family present: Fri., Aug. 19, 2011 6 – 8 pm at Resthaven Mortuary. Service: Saturday, 11:00 AM, Aug. 20, 2011 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Memorials may be given to the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) or the Jr. Golf program at Rolling Hills Country Club in care of Resthaven Mortuary.
