

Darrel Gene Howard, 95, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Family Health & Rehab in Wichita, Kansas. He was born April 26, 1928 in Morganville, Kansas, the son of Ivan C. and Bessie (Trimmer) Howard.
Darrel was baptized on September 13, 1942 in Missouri along with his parents and sisters. He moved to Wichita from Purdy, Missouri in 1944. He attended Planeview High School and graduated in 1946, then attended Wichita University and graduated in 1953, then went and served in the Army as an honor guard to General MacArthur.
Darrel was employed as a Geologist until he moved to D.C. in 1966, where he retired in May of 1988 after 23 years working at the Defense Mapping Agency of the Federal Government in Washington D.C., then returned to Wichita to care for his mother. In his later years, he moved to Missouri for a few years before coming back to Wichita in 2011.
Darrel enjoyed singing with the barbershop chorus in D.C. and Wichita, as well as with the Lewis Street Singers from 2012 - 2020.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; his 2 brothers; and his 2 sisters.
He is survived by: his sister, Carol MacDonald and several nieces & nephews.
Per Darrel's wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family inurnment will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory at a later date.
