Mackie, Doris Jean, Creek, Schrader, 91, passed away peacefully at home July 20, 2013. Doris was born on May 29, 1922 to Martin and Bessye Creek in Graham, TX. She later moved to Wichita, KS and at the age of 8, she worked at the Red Apple Grocery Store. She attended Arkansas Avenue School through 8th grade and graduated in the 9th grade at Horace Mann. At age 14, she worked at Kenny’s Drive-In. In 1941, she married Warren Schrader. Warren was killed in France in WWII in 1944. In 1946, she married James D. Mackie, who passed away in 1966. Doris was a bowling instructor at Fireside Lanes, worked at Culver and Boeing Aircraft and retired from St. Francis Hospital as an LPN. She became a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in 1985 and was an active member of Gold Star Wives for many years. She always had a passion for helping others. Survivors include sister, Bessie Dorsett and husband Albert; daughter, Marcia A. (Mackie) Pigeon-Litano; son, Jim D. Mackie; grandchildren, Kim, Kelly, Shane and Michael; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel.
