She was born to Russell and Mary Estelle (Spear) Scrivner in Wichita Falls, Texas, August 31, 1927. They preceded her in death along with all her siblings: brothers, Russell and John; sisters, Mary Anne Ramsey, Sue Skaggs, Maud Scrivner and Martha McDowell.
Dorothy graduated from Enid High School in 1945 and moved to Wichita to pursue her nursing career, graduating from Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1948. This began a nursing career that spanned five decades until her retirement in 1994 from the Catholic Care Center. It was while in nursing school that she met the love of her life Charles “Bill” W. Singleton, Jr. They were married at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid, OK on November 24, 1948. He preceded her in death July 21, 2006 after 58 years of marriage.
Her Catholic faith carried her through life. She attended Mass on her lunch breaks for many years and saw to it that her children had Catholic educations. She spent the last seven years of her life as a resident at Catholic Care Center Assisted Living. The family would like to thank the staff of Catholic Care Center for the wonderful care and love she received until her death.
Dorothy loved the outdoors and nature, whether it was fishing on the Ninnescah River at their cabin or working in her garden. She passed that love along to her children, friends and family. She especially enjoyed watching the birds on her bird feeders outside her apartment these last months. She was a founding member of Eastside Al-Anon and was a sponsor for many.
She is survived by Charles W. Singleton, III “Chuck” (Gretchen Brictson and her daughter Cayley Walker) of Greenwood Village, Colorado and Mary Elizabeth (Debra McArthur) of Wichita.
