

Duane O. Waite, 86, of North Fort Myers, passed away August 2, 2011 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL with his wife, Delores at his side. Duane was born September 15, 1924 in Gaylord, KS to parents, Joe and Mamie (Reinoehl) Waite. He joined the U.S. Army after High School to fight in World War II and served with the 77th. infantry and saw combat action in Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, he began working for the U.S. Post Office in Wichita, KS where he retired after 32 years of service in 1979. Duane married Delores Wilson October 26, 1974, who survives him. Also surviving is his son, Gregory Waite (Carol) of Mulvane, KS; two grandsons: Chad Waite (Shelly) and Ryan Waite, all of Wichita, KS; great granddaughter, Emily; three step-sons: Doug Wilson (Sequoyah), Leon, KS, Guy Dean Wilson (Linda) of Douglas, KS and Gene Wilson (Pam) of Paola, KS; nine step-grandchildren, twenty-seven step great grandchildren and three step great- great grandchildren. Duane and Delores moved to Shell Knob, Missouri in 1980. They retired to Florida in 2001. Duane was an active member of McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2011 with visitation at 12:00 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita with interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McGregor Baptist Church Food Pantry, 3780 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33966 or to Hope Hospice of Lee County, 2430 Diplomat Parkway Cape Coral, FL 33909.
