Evelyn Lea Rhoades

age 96, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Evelyn was born February 14, 1925 to Estes Emmett & Robbie Lillian Agee in Ada, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell Rhoades; parents Estes Emmett & Robbie Lillian Agee; 2 brothers Glenn & Ernest Agee; 4 sisters Ola Mae Cook, Edna Baker, Ruby Morris, and Willie Lou Middagh.

She leaves to cherish her memories son Doren (Becky) Rhoades; 5 grandchildren, Lachelle (Kevin) Peterson, Crystal (Nick) Clupny, Kelsi (Brandon) Hay, Megan (Josh) Curts, and Drew (Lauren) Rhoades; 14 great grandchildren, Rylea & Reese Peterson; Caleb, Carter, Caitlyn, and Camryn Clupny; Elli, Tenli, Lexi, and Kenzi Hay; Natalie, Ian, and Sina Curts; Paisley Rhoades; brother, Calvin (Inez) Agee and a host of family and friends.

Evelyn worked at the customer service window at Safeway and Bleier’s IGA. She will never be forgotten for her kind spirit and vibrant smile. Her smile was contagious and would light up a room. She also enjoyed gardening, attending classes at the YMCA, cleaning her house; her house was always immaculate and always ready for company. She loved playing games like “Spinner”, cross word puzzles, word searches and cryptocrypt puzzles. Another favorite pastime was coloring and stitching her famous tea towels. Evelyn loved her family. She lived every day for her kids; they were her pride and joy. She always looked forward to phone calls and letters from her many nieces and nephews. She was a mother figure to so many, always nurturing and caring for everyone. “Tuesday coffee” with many of them was something she looked forward to every week. Her church family was also very important to her. She attended services every Wednesday evening and twice-on Sunday. Evelyn also loved to cook and nobody will ever forget her deviled eggs, sweet potatoes and her mouthwatering pies. They were a fan favorite. Evelyn was a very strong, courageous, independent, fun, spunky, loving and caring woman. She would do anything for anyone. She was always there to help and lend a hand.

A visitation for Evelyn will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM at 47th St. Church of Christ, 601 W. 47th St. S., Wichita, KS 67217.
