Georgia Etta (Essick) Taylor passed away on June 25, 2019. Georgia was born in Eureka, Kansas, on February 7, 1919, and grew up on a farm west of Climax, Kansas. When she was in high school, the family moved to a farm near Hamilton, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Emporia State Teachers College and taught school in a one-room school house with 8 grades in District 70 north of Eureka.
Georgia married Howard Robert Taylor on February 5, 1938, in Emporia, Kansas. They moved to Wichita in the early '40s where Howard worked for Boeing throughout the war. Georgia and Howard were married for 76 years prior to his passing in 2014. They had 10 children - Theodore (Ted) James Taylor (Denise Stone), Lawrence Howard Taylor (deceased), Sharon Louise Lassiter, Carol Marie Palmer, John Robert Taylor (deceased), Mary Catherine (Cathy) Bickell (deceased) ,Kenneth Dow Taylor (Melitta), George Edwin Taylor, Gary Donald Taylor, and Lila Anne Stovall (Dennis) - 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Georgia was a very talented, kind, loving woman. Her hand-pieced quilts and hooked rugs were legendary, as well as the many crocheted and embroidered items she produced over the years. She also loved to garden and she received a commendation from Lady Bird Johnson's Beautify America back in the 1960s for the landscaping of her yard. She spoiled her family with cinnamon rolls on Friday nights and two chocolate cakes on Saturdays, one to be eaten hot and the other cooled and frosted. At the end of each meal, Howard would always ask, "What's for dessert," and there was always something. Childhood friends frequented her dinner table, and although she was already cooking for 12, there was always enough to share. It is a testament to her and Howard that the friends of the 10 children always wanted to spend time at the Taylor house. She was happiest when holding a baby or opening cards and letters she received in the mail. Georgia worked the puzzles in the daily paper up until the time of her death.
Georgia's family and friends have lost a great lady who gave unconditional love to all. She will be greatly missed.
