Gregory Charles Marlow, 59, passed away January 2, 2017. He is preceded in death by parents Calvin and Patricia Marlow and sister Gloria Charlene Marlow. Gregory is survived by wife of 37 years, Sherry; sons Jerad and Justin Marlow; siblings Jean (Jerry) Googe, Linda (James) Mosely, Bob Johnson, and Gail (Don) Starnes; and grandchildren Azariah and Hezekiah Marlow.
It could be said of Greg what Christ says of us, “You did not choose me but I have chosen you.” Greg was adopted as a newborn after his mom heard about a baby needing a family at work. Her heart leaped with joy and she was in love with him before she ever even laid eyes on him. After hearing about him, she waited for Cal after work, (they both worked at the same aircraft plant in San Diego, California). She told him she had somewhere to take him. It’s a good thing Cal was just as eager to adopt Greg as Pat was because she would not have taken no for an answer. She KNEW Greg was theirs.
He attended Southeastern Bible College for his first year and then transferred to Southwestern Assemblies of God College. (SAGU) He graduated in 1979 also with the highest honors. He met his wife Sherry while working in the cafeteria at Southwestern and they married in 1979. Greg was Ordained with the Assemblies of God in 1982. He also received an MBA degree in the following years.
He and Sherry served in ministry in Austin, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee, Indianola and Eagle Grove Iowa. He was a professor at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota, was an adjunct professor for SAGU and was pastoring Coldwater Assembly of God in Coldwater Kansas when it became necessary to resign due to his deteriorating health. He was also a substitute school teacher and a planner and test supervisor on the B2 stealth bomber.
Greg was a quiet man who epitomized the phrase, “a man of few words.” However, his heart for the lost and desire to see God’s kingdom expanded brought him out of his shell at every opportunity to preach, teach or just sit and talk about the goodness of the Lord over a cup of coffee.
Greg loved history, especially American History. He never missed a historical marker or battlefield when traveling. He could name every president by memory both backwards and forwards. He loved to read and watch old TV shows and was an avid Star Wars fan. He would not only go to every new Star Wars movie but he watched Star Wars at night before going to bed. Nothing Star Wars was lost on him.
For now the family says, “Goodbye dear one, we love you so; but into the arms of God we let you go. Soon we will join you to see His face; the one who has saved us by His grace.”
