Bevis, Josie M., 92, passed away June 8, 2018. For 74 years, Josie attended Asbury United Methodist Church. In her working years, she was a seamstress and later an Instructional Paraprofessional. She retired from the USD 259 Board of Education. She was a creative and resourceful lady who would buy the scraps from her shop and use it to create beautiful clothing for her family and she'd repair her family's clothing as well. In her resourcefulness she'd say, "Save what you can and give away what you don't need." Josie loved to garden. Whether it was vegetable or her favorite flowers, four o'clocks, she cared meticulously for each plant. She dedicated a large portion of her yard to squash, and each get together she'd would prepare and serve the squash under the guise of sweet potato pie. It was always a hit, and she was the only one who could make it just right. Another one of her favorite past-times was to read love inspired books. She enjoyed them because they always had a happy ending. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family. She always would attend each and every family dinner, gathering, birthday. She cherished her time with them. She was a true matriarch with her assertive but loving demeanor and caring and compassionate ways. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore G. Bevis, daughter, Teresa Brown, brothers, Joe and Charles Franks, and sisters, Martha Cink, Evelyn Smith, and Margarite Smith. She is survived by her sister, Atha Moore; brother, Preston (Ruby) Franks; daughters, Kathryn (Preston) Norton, Carolyn (Bernard) Downing; grandchildren, Alicia (Rick) Bell, Amy (Juan Martinez) Featherby, Jeremy (Dawn) Brown, Angela (Daniel) Walker, Greg Brown, Elizabeth (Scott) Sanborn, Tim Norton, and Pamela Norton; great grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda, Michael, Nicholas, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Zach, Ben, Josephine, Gabrielle, Wyatt, David, Lilyann, Guinevere, Samantha, and Emma.
