Karen Sue Smith, 77, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025. Born on November 2, 1948, in Pratt, Kansas, Karen was the beloved daughter of Bessie J. Thompson and Jack K. Hartley.
Karen graduated from Campus High School and went on to build a life centered around family, hard work, and compassion. She worked as a meat wrapper for Safeway and Dillons, was co-owner of Country Corner Convenience in Grove, Oklahoma, and later served as a devoted caregiver. Her dedication and kindness touched countless lives.
She married Joel Smith, with whom she shared many cherished memories until her passing.
Karen is survived by her husband, Joel Smith; sons, Shawn Cherry and Erin (Megan) Henderson; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Bobby Shelton and Terry Shelton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; previous husband, Danny Littlejohn; brother, Tony Shelton; granddaughter, Payton; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie.
Karen was known for her loving heart and unwavering willingness to help others. She was always there when needed, offering comfort and support with grace and warmth.
Funeral service for Karen will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 29, 2025, with visitation one hour prior from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
