A genteel woman that loved unconditionally, LaVella Mae Elliott, passed on December 3, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 82. She was born on August 23, 1942, in Wichita, to the late Bernice Guy-Reed and Earl Guy and was sister to Jerry.
When in high school, she would drag Douglas St. with her friends and her cat, Snowball, who hung out on her dash. She won a 10-key competition that helped get her first job at .75 cents an hour, making her the highest paid of her friends, and in her 20's, LaVella enjoyed her spare time being on a bowling league.
Marrying Raymond Elliott was one of the highlights of her life, immediately making LaVella a step-mother of two. In her mid-30’s, she was a truck driver alongside Ray, and later they had their children Brandi and Angel, making her a mother of 4. They enjoyed all their time making memories as a family until his passing in 2002. Afterwards, she continued to work, kept busy by caring for her cats, raising and keeping chickens, watching football and was also a great artist who shared her gifts with those she loved.
As retirement years came, LaVella spent time living in Independence, Kansas with her daughter, Brandi and son-in-law, William. Here, she was able to be a hands-on, loving, caring, and wonderful mother, sister, grand-mother and friend. She was very soft spoken, kind and wise. And of all her traits, knowing she gave love with no condition, was one of many endearing qualities. A beautiful life lived in color, never to be forgotten.
LaVella is predeceased by her parents, husband, and daughter, Angel.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her brother, Jerry (Sharon) Guy; daughter, Brandi (William) Meyerson; stepdaughter, Susan Swafford; grandsons, Tjaden Van Winkle and Jonah Van Winkle; stepson, Shawn (Sue) Elliott; and granddaughters, Vanessa Chernivsky and Kacy Stevens.
