Mary Alice Drees

Mary Alice Drees, 84, of Wichita, KS passed away August 5, 2013. Mary was born November 21, 1928 in Franklin, MO to Edward H. and Rose M. Gross. After graduating from high school in Boonville, MO, she attended Marymount College in Salina, KS, where she graduated with a degree in math. While attending school she met the love of her life, William L. Drees. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. She and William moved to Wichita, KS, where they lived and raised their family. Mary loved her children very much and especially her grandchildren. She taught elementary school and ran a home day care for many years. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Altar Society and Harvest House organizations.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Eunice M. Miller of Sedalia, MO, Irene M. Savage of Kansas City, MO, and infant brother Joseph Gross. She is survived by her husband, William, sister Frances O’Brien of Kansas City, MO, seven children, William E. (Betty) Drees of Overland Park, KS, Jean Snyder of Santa Barbara, CA, Tom J. Drees of Wichita, KS, Kevin P. Drees of Stillwater, OK, Christine A. (Thomas) Sanders of Hutchinson, KS, Nancy L. (Scott) Nixon of Frisco, TX, Rick J. (Marci) Drees of Wichita, KS, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. We are all going to miss her pleasant smile, warm heart and compassionate personality. Visitation with family present 1-4pm on Sun. August 11, 2013 at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary with Rosary to follow at 8pm at St. Anne Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9am, Mon. August 12, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Anne Catholic Church.
