

Burns, Michael (Mike) B., 92, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and servant of the Lord, passed into eternal life on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012. Rosary 6pm Sunday, Nov. 4, Funeral Mass 10am Monday, Nov. 5, both at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
Born in Independence, KS on Nov. 25, 1919 and raised in Cherryvale, KS, Michael was the fourth child of Robert and Matilda Burns. In his youth, Michael was an accomplished boxer, dancer and musician and served his country for two and a half years during WWII in India and Burma. On Feb. 4, 1947 he married the love of his life, Theresa A. Pinaire. Mike worked for the Toledo Scale Company and the Boeing Company supporting his 11 children. Serving as the head of the family, he provided his children with a foundation based on faith and service of God and fellow man. Michael was devoted to the Holy Eucharist and attended daily Mass for most of his retirement years. Michael and Theresa also prayed the daily Rosary for over 50 years. Mike enjoyed any competition, music, travel, fishing and dancing, especially with his beautiful wife. Michael was a long-time parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, a Third Order Carmelite and active in various ministries, including prison ministry and pro-life activities.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, his parents and his five siblings, Margaret, Catherine Truster, Robert, John and Richard. He is survived by his children, Edward, Rita Killough, Mary Massie, Joseph, Thomas, Agnes, Anne Buckett, Patrick, Joan Suffield, Robert, Paul, and their spouses; 35 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
