Mims, Noma (nee Shelley), age 91, died peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2016. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Mims. She is survived by her four daughters, Martha Connor (Larry), Cathy Mims-Friedman (Jake), Linda Armer (Lance), Nancy Mims (Jack), and her four grandchildren, Micah and Elyse Friedman, Robert Slingsby and Shelley Armer. A child of the Depression era, her clear-sighted logic and thinking made her a solid human being. Noma was a superlative homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an inspiring seamstress, passing that creativity and knowledge of her craft on to her daughters. She exposed her daughters to the joys of music, art, cooking, gardening, reading and a love of the outdoors, which included her enjoyment of swimming and diving. An active member of First Presbyterian Church for her long adult life, she relished playing in the bell choir and volunteering at the Economy Corner for 30 years. She looked forward to spending time with this community of friend-volunteers, her way of lending a helping had to those less fortunate. Noma took steadfast, loving care of her husband, Harold, and her mother, Florence Shelley, in their declining years. Her quiet confidence and support will be sorely missed. Graveside service 1:00 pm Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Economy Corner, 525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214.
