Born in Galeana, Mexico, on January 29th, 1931, he came to Wichita when he was 18 years old to attend college. Oscar graduated with a master's degree in business administration from Wichita State University. His plan was to return to Mexico after graduating. Instead, he met his future wife, Estela, and they were married in 1955.
Shortly after, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. After his service, he and Estela returned to Wichita and made it their home.
He built a successful business career, serving as vice president at Twin Lakes State Bank and later as an entrepreneur, building his own businesses and helping other entrepreneurs realize their dreams. He founded N.E.D.A, The National Economics Development Association, where he helped aspiring entrepreneurs create business plans and secure loans to start new ventures, including local favorite Squeeks Donuts.
In the late 1970s, Oscar and Estela bought property in west Wichita and built a shopping center they named Robin Plaza. It became home to Littell’s Interiors, an interior decorating business they operated together until retirement.
Oscar and Estela joined Rolling Hills Country Club, where they were members for over 50 years. He took up golf with a passion, making several hole-in-ones. Oscar had an incredible sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a deep sense of integrity that earned him many lifelong friendships. He had a progressive outlook, encouraging new ideas, welcoming different perspectives, and embracing people from all walks of life. A firm believer in civic responsibility, he became a U.S. citizen in 1993.
With Estela, he created a beautiful life and a warm home, hosting family and friends for every occasion. Known for their hospitality, great food, and generous pours, they welcomed guests with open arms and made everyone feel like family. Whether through spirited conversations or celebrating milestones with loved ones, he fostered an environment of warmth and acceptance that enriched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Estela Martinez; his three sons: Mark and his wife Terenda, Rick and his wife Kathi, and Robby and his husband Roger; three grandchildren: Ami and her husband Timmy, Emily and her husband Joe, and Devin and his wife Lynsi; along with seven great-grandchildren: Lukas, Wyatt, Emerson, Hank, Lyla, Lina, and Harrison.
Services to honor Oscar’s life will be held at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, at 3:00 p.m., with a burial service to follow.
