Patrick D. L. Fillmore, 97, of Haysville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at home. Patrick was born on February 18, 1925 in Hubbardston, Michigan, the son of Manson Daniel and Lulu Grace (Thayer) Fillmore.
On May 23, 1946 he married Mary Louise Sprayberry in Lansing, Michigan.
As a result of his military service, Patrick lived in many places including Scotland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Turkey and throughout the United States. He has lived in Haysville since 2006. Patrick served in the Army Air-Corp and the U.S. Air Force. During WWII, he flew as a radio operator/gunner and later as a counter measures radar specialist. He worked many years in the Security Service in electronics. Upon his retirement he worked for GE as an electrical engineer.
Patrick loved anything outdoors. As a boy he and his brothers ran free in the countryside in Michigan. He was particularly fond of fishing and he coached little league baseball. He also enjoyed bowling and shooting. He was always a hard worker and could build anything that was wanted, large or small. He could fix almost anything that was broken. In his younger years he was very good at basketball. Patrick was a longtime devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and considered his years of working in the Temple to be the highlight of his life.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Mary.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Fillmore, of San Antonio, TX, Michael Fillmore of Hunter, OK, and Susan Fillmore of Haysville, KS; grandchildren, Marina, David, Athena, Heather, Adam, Josie, Benjamin, Sariah; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24; Remembrance Room from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. with pictures and memories, followed by the service at 10:00 a.m., all at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2300 N. Buckner Street, Derby, Kansas 67037. Military Graveside Service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Freedom.
A memorial has been established with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple Fund.
