Richard “Dick” T. Pottorff, 84, passed away after a short illness on August 3, 2018. Dick was born to William and Martha (Black) Pottorff on July 25, 1934 in Carthage, Missouri. After graduating from Carthage High School, Dick joined the United States Army and was stationed in Düsseldorf, Germany. He was honorably discharged in January 1956. He moved back to Joplin, Missouri where he met June Fisher on a blind date, who was to become the love of his life. Just three months later they were married, two years after he was discharged from the Army.
Dick and June moved to Wichita, Kansas so Dick could attend Wichita State. Dick began his long and successful career in the Saving & Loan business at Mortabank. After working for Mortabank he worked for American Savings and Mid-Kansas Federal Savings & Loan before becoming the President and CEO of Mid-Continent Federal Saving & Loan in El Dorado in 1978 until his retirement in 1998. Dick also served on the Board for the Kansas-Nebraska Savings & Loan League and on the Board for the Federal Home Loan Bank.
He and his beloved wife loved to travel, taking numerous cruises and trips with friends and with family. They also took their granddaughter, Sarah, on their yearly road trip vacations every summer to Missouri, Colorado, down Route 66 and they followed the Lewis and Clark Trail. They instilled in their children and granddaughter a love of travel and history.
Dick was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years June (Fisher), his parents William and Martha, his half-brother, Howard and half-sister, Alberta.
Dick is survived by daughter Kelley (Tray), son Steven; granddaughter Sarah (Houston)step-granddaughters Shanna (Chris) and Kodie and step-grandchildren Stockton, Riggin and Adley, sister Lera (Harold) and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 10am at Metro East Baptist Church, 333 N. 143rdSt. E., Wichita, 67230, Followed by graveside service and burial at Lakeview Cemetery, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, 67206. Celebration of Life and Fellowship to follow at Metro East Baptist Church.
