Richard Lee McDonald 82, passed away on September 28, 2022, at Harry Hynes Hospice. He was born on August 20, 1940, at Wichita Hospital to Anna Lee and Kenneth McDonald. He grew up in Liberal, Kansas with three brothers and one sister. He graduated from Liberal High School.
He went on to become a Wichita City Firefighter for 22 years and was instrumental in the initiation of the EMT program for Wichita, KS. He was one of the first paramedics and taught paramedic training at WSU. He retired from the City of Wichita fire department and went to work for the Boeing Company Fire Department for another 15 years. He retired at age 58.
He married Sharon Kay Schweer on September 30th, 1967. Rick and Sharon were a very loving and giving couple. They were very involved in their church Westside Church of God and had many friends in and out of the church. Rick was a very devotional man and loved to share the Good News of the Lord. He also played the harmonica like a pro and when he played "Danny Boy" it would bring tears to your eyes.
He is survived by his sons and daughter in laws, Michael (Vanessa), Jack Lynn (Carol), six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His sister and brother- in-law Marlene (Paul) Tucker, sister-in-law Marie McDonald, six nephews and two nieces.
A Graveside service will be held October 15th at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Garden of Memory 11800 W Hwy 54 Wichita, KS 67209. In lieu of flowers please donate in care of Rick McDonald's name to Westside Church of God 1900 W McCormick St Wichita, KS 67213.
