Ruth Evans Bingham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Wichita, Kansas as the age of 81. Ruth was born on July 8, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, to D. Lloyd and Madeline Evans. Ruth was raised with her sister, Marilyn Young, in Wilkes-Barre. She attended Bloomsburg State College, and graduated from Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business in Kingston, PA.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce C. Bingham, who she married in 1964 in Long Beach, California. Daughters Karen and Jennifer were born and the family moved to Indiana in 1969, and to Kansas in 1982. Ruth was a devoted, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and more. She made a positive impression on everyone she met. A voice of reason for many with a positive attitude, joyful personality, and sweet disposition combined with a great sense of humor, Ruth’s body failed long before her spirit. A lifelong Christian, Ruth has begun her eternal life with the Lord in the place he prepared for her, as noted in John 14:2-3.
After staying home to care for her children while they were young, she worked at Farm Bureau Insurance Claims Office for many years in Wichita, Kansas. She and Bruce retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas where she had many friends with whom she remained close until her death. Ruth became a Certified Pharmacy Technician to volunteer in a non-profit pharmacy in order to assist others. She returned to Wichita, Kansas to be closer to her daughters and their families. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ.
In addition to caring for her family, she enjoyed various hobbies, including painting decorative wood, making stained glass, playing cards and Mahjong with friends, reading, card making, and various other crafting.
Ruth will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her children, Karen Cravens and husband Carl of New Jersey, and Jennifer Vogts and husband Mike of Wichita, Kansas; her grandchildren: Nathan Cravens, Kayla Vogts and Megan Vogts; her sister Marilyn Young; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who will cherish her memory.
Compassionate and caring for others, Ruth supported ministries serving the underprivileged. She had great compassion for underfed children, and enjoyed contributing toward the assistance available at her granddaughters’ elementary school. She always tried to make sure children would not go hungry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to Vermillion Elementary School, 501 S. James Avenue, Maize, KS 67101, to aid in supplementing children's meals.
Ruth’s family and friends are near and far. At her request, no services will be held; she will be laid to rest at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
The family would like to thank Ruth's caregivers at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and her wonderful friends and family who enriched her life so greatly.
