Our beloved “Sher Bear,” Sherri Marie Deringer, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Haysville, Kansas, at the age of 54. Born on August 15, 1970, in Wichita, Kansas, to Melvin and Nanita (Clark) Deringer, Sherri was the cherished sister of Kerri, TC, Juanita, and Amie.
Sherri began working at the young age of 16, primarily in food service, until she became disabled. Throughout her life, Sherri was known for her constant happiness and radiant smile, even during the most challenging times. Her nurturing nature shone brightly when her father, Melvin, passed away, as she stepped up to help her mother care for her sisters.
Loved by all who knew her, Sherri held a special place in her sisters' hearts, who saw her as a second mother. She often said, “I didn’t have kids because you, my sisters, are my babies.” Her sisters fondly remember that not a day went by without Sherri sharing a hug or saying, “I love you.”
A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, Sherri never missed a game. When she wasn't cheering for her team, she enjoyed collecting Indian memorabilia and bears, earning her the nickname “Sher Bear.” She also treasured the time spent with her companion, Jackie Nixon, who passed away in 2024.
Sherri's light of love, gone too soon, will continue to be honored and remembered. She is survived by her mother, Nanita, and her sisters, TC and Juanita (Mike). She now joins her father, Melvin; her sisters, Kerri and Amie; and her companion, Jackie.
A celebration of life for Sherri will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
