

Sister Sedonia Isenbart (Sr. M. Florian), 108, entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Mt. St. Mary’s Convent, Marian Hall, Wichita, Kansas. Sr. Sedonia was born August 12, 1917, to Henry and Eva (Kunzman) Isenbart in the home of her maternal grandparents in Capron, Oklahoma. She was the seventh child in a family of four girls and five boys. Sedonia’s first years of schooling were received in a small one-room school, Sunnyside District 91, which was half a mile from their home. In 1929, Sacred Heart Parochial School opened. Sedonia completed her elementary education there beginning with the fourth grade. Secondary education was not required at this time, so she completed her GED after she entered the Congregation. She busied herself with helping with household duties and farm chores for a number of years. February 8, 1936, Sedonia entered the Sisters of St. Joseph at Mt. St. Mary Convent, Wichita, Kansas. She received the habit and religious name of Sister Florian August 15, 1936. Her final profession was August 15, 1941. Sr. Sedonia served her God for 90 years as a Sister of St. Joseph. She has served the Dear Neighbor in various capacities: housekeeping, hospital dietary work, nurse aide, CNA, home visitation, elder care, religious education, second language and GED instruction, and an occasional few days of classroom substitution for a sick sister. Her places of ministry have been in Kansas, Andale, Halstead, St. Paul and Wichita; Shiprock, New Mexico and Del Norte, Colorado. Sr. Sedonia retired to Wichita in 2000 and continued to be of service wherever she could help the Dear Neighbor. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Eva (Kunzman) Isenbart, two sisters, Sr. Anges Mary Isenbart and Julia Yantz and her brothers Cecil Isenbart, Lawrence Isenbart, Adam Isenbart, Von Isenbart and Frederick Isenbart. Survivors include her sister Sr. Margaret Ellen Isenbart, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and members of her religious Congregation.
The Wake Service will be Monday, February 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. All will be at Mt. St. Mary’s Convent, 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, Kansas 67218.
