

Anderson, William D. “Bill” Jr., 83, printer and former mayor of Wichita, died June 2 after a fall at his home. A native Wichitan, Anderson graduated from North High in 1945, then joined the U.S. Army. He later graduated from Abilene Christian College where he met his bride-to-be, Ruth Marie Wood. He worked with his father and brother at Anderson Printing Co. and was elected to the Wichita City Commission in 1965. He was mayor from 1968-69 when he cut the ribbon at Century II and hosted the second inaugural of former Kansas Gov. Robert B. Docking. Anderson later served on the state Board of Tax Appeals and was Sedgwick County purchasing director from 1977-93. He enjoyed golf and his Benjamin Franklin collection. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth; brother, Lawrence; two sons, Brent (Cristy) and Brice (Sheryl) all of Wichita; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anabel Cunningham and two children, William D. Anderson III and Brockie Sue Headrick. Visitation is Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Northside Church of Christ, 4545 N. Meridian, followed by burial at Resthaven. Memorial, Know Your Bible, c/o the church.
