

George was a United States Veteran honored in the branch of the military joining The Air Force becoming a Master Sergeant Electrician and Air National Guard, Radar Specialist and proudly served for twenty years.
A thriving man, he attended Bentley College earning his bachelor’s degree of Science in Accounting then onto obtaining his MBA at Bryant University. He was an eternal student, always seeking to learn and grow while he embraced problem solving. George continued his desire to advance his career in the growing field of technology and became Director of I.T. at Verizon for nineteen years.
Family meant everything to George, as he cherished moments with years of joyful gatherings. He had a larger-than-life personality; he would light up a room with his sense of humor. He truly represented a man who was loyal, fierce, loving and often stubborn. His enthusiasm shined on the dance floor as he and his loving wife Leona would dance to the night away to The Golden Oldies, then reminisce of the good ole’ days. He remained athletic most his life participating in tennis, skiing, golf, pickle ball, water aerobics, and most recently his favorite was The Parkinson’s Disease Fight Club. George also enjoyed long rides on his Can-Am motorcycle and relaxing with friends playing cards as well as dining with the wine and gourmet club. He leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and passion for his family and wife Lee, his best friend forever…
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Leona Schommer; his daughter Victoria Garie, her wife Jodi Garie, son Russell Schommer, wife Kimberly Schommer, son Anthony Schommer, wife Marie Schommer. His five grandchildren, Robert, Ryan, Reid Schommer, Eleanor Brady and Anthony Schommer, sister-in law Carol Johnson, brother-in law Warren Johnson, nephew Christopher Johnson and niece Caroline Johnson.
His family has organized a memorial service to honor George’s life. A military service to be held soon at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida.
