

Alberto C. Kalaskas, 73, Williamsburg, VA, July 1, 2016, lost his fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Boklaoan, Kapangan, Benguet, Philippines to Doeno and Mayang Kalaskas. He is survived by his mother, Mayang Kalaskas; his wife of 49 years, Shirley Kalaskas; and his siblings, Amado Kalaskas (Joanna), Antonio Kalaskas (Luz), Stella Anton, Patricia Butangen (Joseph), Bernard Anton (Janet), Benedict Anton, Valentino Anton (Jessica), and John Anton (Marciana); his children, Alice Allred and Albert Kalaskas (Stefanie); and his grandchildren, Danielle and Lizam Kalaskas and Sarah and Alex Allred. He was preceded in death by his father, Doeno Kalaskas, his brothers, Jose Anton and Dionisio Anton.
He grew up in Baguio City, Philippines. He joined the US Navy and worked to rank of Master Chief. In his thirty year career, he served in the Vietnam War and cruised and travelled the world. He was awarded the following Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal (2), Vietnam Service Medal (3), Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN MUC (Gallantry Cross), Sea Service Ribbon, .38 Marksman Ribbon, Seventh Good Conduct Award for Period Ending 07NOV91. The Navy took his family from San Diego, California to Williamsburg, Virginia.
After he and Shirley retired, they focused on their religious calling to spread the word of God in the Philippines via medical and dental missions. With the help and the generosity of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church community and friends, they were able to start and fund several missions that are ongoing.
Visitation will be at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 6-8 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life service at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church on 500 Jamestown Road on July 8, 2016 at 2 pm. Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Albert & Shirley’s Philippine Mission c/o Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
