Catherine "Polly" Delores Ford-West

Catherine Ford-West “Polly” was born on October 5, 1940 in Yorktown (Magruder), Virginia and gained her wings on November 25, 2025, at the age of 85 in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Crump; mother, Della Crump; sister, Myrtle Smith; and brother, Harold Crump.

Polly worked as a nurse’s aid for Eastern State Hospital for many years, making many lifelong friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading the bible, dancing, playing spades, watching old westerns, and absolutely loved listening to gospel music.

She was very family-oriented and would spend time shopping and visiting different restaurants with her special nephew, Andrew, the light of her life. Polly was kind and caring, often donating to church activities and programs.

Polly is survived by her loving, caring husband of 50 years, Walter West; siblings, Juanita Achols (Rill) and Phyllis Cain; two aunts, three nieces, six nephews, and special grandnephew, Andrew Duval. Over the years, she also maintained strong bonds with Anna Hopkins, Lizzie Daniels and special friend, Vern; and a host of family and friends.

Polly will be most remembered for her warm smile and wit, her tenacity for problem solving, even when unsolicited—which will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Polly’s great passion for life and putting others before herself, will be her lasting legacy.

A service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Virginia, with a visitation prior at 10:00 AM.
