

Donald (Don) was born on December 7, 1924 in New York City. He earned his MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business and a Master’s Degree and ABD in Educational Psychology from the Curry School of Education.
Don was a very accomplished man. He began his technical education at the American Radio Institute in 1938. From 1944-47, Donald was the Staff Announcer at Radio station WJTN, Jamestown, NY. In 1948, he moved to Waynesboro, Virginia as a Field Engineer working on General Electric Mobile Communications. In 1951, he started working for radio station WAYB, in Waynesboro, VA, as Chief Engineer. In 1953, he began working with Paul Klann and Marketing VP of Klann Organ Supply Co. In 1964, Donald went back to radio and built WANV, “The Sound of Music” in Waynesboro.
Before retiring to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2001, he taught adult business leaders for 27 years, as a member of the Darden School of Business. These included the US Navy, and US Postal Service. He was a member and held office in several non-profit civics organizations, including Waynesboro Rotary Club, YMCA, United Fund of Waynesboro, Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce, Organ Builders of America, Senior Employment Resources in Fairfax, VA, and Commander Flotilla 14-3, US Coastal Guard Auxiliary, Williamsburg Area Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by his second wife, Carolyn Curtis of Williamsburg Virginia, his daughter, Linda (Curtis) Barker of Encampment, WY, and his sons, Donald D. Curtis III, and Thomas W. Curtis of Waynesboro, Virginia, and his sister Catherine Redmond of New York.
