

Colonel (Retired) Edward O. Yaugo, faithful Catholic, devoted husband, incredible father and Papa, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 21, 2021 after his third battle with cancer, at the age of 82.
He was born May 13, 1939, and raised in Warren, Ohio by his loving parents, Orrie Yaugo and Catherine Malaspina Yaugo. He attended Youngstown State University on a football scholarship, and graduated in 1961 as a ROTC distinguished military graduate with a BS in Business.
He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Regular Army in June, 1961. He attended Infantry Officer Course, Airborne and Ranger Schools at Ft. Benning, GA. A few of the many highlights of his 27 year career included serving with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One); two tours in Vietnam; student of the Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS; Commanding Officer of Arctic Rangers, Ft. Richardson, AK; Commander, 1st Battalion (Ranger), 75th Infantry, Ft. Stewart, GA; student of the US Army War College, Carlisle, PA; Chief of War Plans, Seoul, Korea; Dean of Students at Armed Forces Command and General Staff College, Norfolk, VA; and retired out of Ft. Belvoir, VA. He received a Master’s Degree from James Madison University.
While attending the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, he met and fell in love with his wife of 51 years, Janet Aaron Yaugo.
His military career brought much recognition, but the title he loved most was Dad and Papa.
Surviving are his wife, Janet; sons, Orrie Edward (Melissa) Yaugo, and Tyler John Yaugo; daughters, Georgia Yaugo Pinto (Ramon) and Sally Yaugo Kerner (Chris); nine grandchildren, Maddie and Peyton Yaugo, Emma, Anna Paige, and Benjamin Yaugo, Ramon and Eddie Pinto, Laney and Hattie Kerner; sister, Ellie (John) Monchak; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Mark) Snyder, Linda (Fabian) Robitaille, Jeanne (Rex) Gardner and Kathy Aaron; and several grand nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren. In addition to his parents, and in-laws, Ed was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Marye Aaron Williams.

A funeral mass will be held at Saint Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188 on September 10, 2021 at 11 AM. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, at a date yet to be determined.
