

She was born October 2, 1923 in Spring Hill, NC to Betty Parks and Henry Thomas Hancock. She graduated from Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond, VA and worked at the Farm Security Office and later the Register of Deeds in Halifax, NC until the end of World War II. After the war, she married her childhood sweetheart in their hometown of Scotland Neck, NC on June 22, 1947 and they set up housekeeping in a home next to their first mercantile business.
Elizabeth will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. After moving to Williamsburg in 1986, she and her husband joined Bruton Parish Church, enjoyed their volunteer work and spending time with their grandson.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Julian Allen Pittman, Jr.; two sisters Sara Hancock Landon and Eloise Hancock Flowers; one brother, Clarence L. Hancock.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Pittman of Williamsburg, VA; and one grandson, Dr. Julian T. Pittman of Destin, Fl.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 20th at Bruton Parish Church, 331 W. Duke of Gloucester St., Williamsburg, 23185 with the burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 809 S. Henry St., Williamsburg, 23185.
