

James Lowry Niles of Quinton, Virginia, died on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the age of 70. He was born and raised in Northern Virginia, and was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Charles Niles; and his granddaughter, Harper Paige Niles.
James was a retired veteran of the United States Army after 26 years of service, serving in the Vietnam War. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals amongst many others. He was a member of Transportation Lodge No. 337, Warwick Royal Arch Chapter No. 80, and the Valley of Newport News Scottish Rite.
James was a people person who could talk to anyone. He loved to sit in his garage with the door open, invite his neighbors in for a drink and always check on everyone up and down the street. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the shooting range. He loved to enjoy a meal at Longhorn in Williamsburg where he was a regular and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Niles; children, Kim Broeckel, Wendy Niles, Penny Crenshaw (Josh) and Jimmy Niles (Tiffany); ten grandchildren, Chelsea (Eric), Autumn, Hannah, Boy Bryce, James, Girl Bryce, Raina, Noah, Emerson, Jonah; great-grandchildren, Camden and Austin; sister, Maggie Formhals (Bob); brother, Chuck Niles; and several brother and sister-in-laws.
A gathering will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA.
