

John was born August 1, 1931, in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Central High School in Washington, DC and attended Devitt Preparatory School, before entering the U.S. Army. After his service he met and married Virginia Louise Miller in 1956. John enrolled at the University of Virginia, graduating from the McIntire School of Commerce in 1960. He supported the UVA community for decades afterwards and was an ardent fan of Cavalier sports. He worked in data systems management in the private sector, and held a civil service post at the Energy Information Administration before retiring in 2001. A man of extraordinary faith, he was an active member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Norge serving on the finance counsel and as a member of the choir.
In addition to Virginia, his wife of 64 years, he is survived by three children John G., Jr. (Lisa) of Mechanicsville, Christopher (Elizabeth) of Alexandria and Ann (Tony) Blechman of Hudson, OH and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Sheila, known to the family as “Sunny.”
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday May 1 at 11:00AM at St. Olaf Catholic Church. Masks will be required and social distancing practices will be adhered to. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
