

John "Dave" Gabeler, 61, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on January 5, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1964 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesse and Rose Phillips.
In 1982, Dave graduated from Fairfield High School in Fairfield, California. He then worked as an auto mechanic and heavy equipment operator for many years,
He enjoyed drag racing, bowling, and coaching softball. In his younger years, he played middle/high school basketball, baseball, and football.
Dave loved his family, close friends and loved ones, the softball community, watching USC and UCLA sports, and the Raiders football team. He was extremely proud of and truly loved his only granddaughter, Vivian.
He is survived by his parents, Shirley Phillips Gabeler and William Gabeler, and John Mullen. Dave is also survived by his former wife, Laura W. Gabeler; son, Brandon Gabeler; daughter, Samantha Lyles (Jameel); grandchild, Vivian Lyles; siblings, Lisa Dewald (Steve), Tracie Boze (Rob), and Kelly Carter (Brian); many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family; long-time friend, Roy Richardson; and bonus daughter, Amber Stevens.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, located at 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188, on January 10, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
