He retired from the National Park Service.
John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Burroughs Shackelford; his sons, Robert Shackelford and Jason Shackelford; his daughters, Melinda Elam (Nick), Rebecca Hart (Richie) and Joy Snyder (Aaron); fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, November 13 from 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14 at 1pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
