Margaret “Penny” Grace Shiveley, age 78 of Williamsburg, previously of McLean, VA, passed away on the evening of May 9, 2018. Penny was born to the late Edward J. Moberg Jr. and Margaret Robertson Moberg on August 4, 1939 in Westchester, New York and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Penny was a graduate of Stephens College and the University of Missouri, where she received degrees in Education. While attending university, Penny met the love of her life, Dr. Murle “Wayne” Shiveley, also an alumnus of the University of Missouri. They were married in Valley Forge, PA on August 28, 1965.
Penny loved children and devoted her early career to teaching and education. After raising three boys, she found time to teach preschool, play bridge, and paint. Penny loved traveling and being with her family. She was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, VA.
She is survived by her husband and their children and spouses; Wayne (Kristen) Shiveley, Oakton, VA, Matt (Ann) Shiveley, Denver, CO, Brad (Katherine) Shiveley, Richmond, VA; 9 loving grandchildren (Adam, Grace, Ellie, Lily, Evan, Cade, Jack, Kate and James); and her sister, Jane Ruark, Ponte Verda Beach, FL.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 12:00 PM at the WindsorMeade Kensington Room, 3900 Windsor Hall Dr, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (Reception to follow service).
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness, especially the nurses and staff of both WindsorMeade Manchester and Hadley House. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
