

After earning her bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, she immigrated to the United States in 1955 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Maria became a U.S. citizen in 1960 and was commissioned in the United States Army, where she became the first Women's Army Corps (WAC) officer to be detailed to the Chemical Corps. After a successful career, Maria retired as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel in 1978.
Maria is preceded in death by her friend, Teddy Hery; and leaves behind friends and family members who will miss her, including her cousin, Lydia Carroll; and her niece Pilar Ramirez. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to St. Olaf Roman Catholic Church.
A graveside service will be held at Williamsburg Memorial Park at 1:00pm on Friday, May 20, 2022, 130 King William Dr, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
