Mrs. Mariko Bloom (née Ogawa), a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026 in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was 95 years old. Born June 3, 1930 in Tokyo, Japan, Mariko’s life journey spanned continents and generations. Her early years in Japan shaped her deep appreciation for beauty and tradition – values she carried with her throughout her life. Mariko eventually made her home in the United States where she built a life filled with love, family, and meaningful pursuits. She was married to Jardine C. (Clift) Bloom, with whom she shared many cherished years before his passing. Mariko found great joy in nurturing both her family and her surroundings. An avid gardener, she took great pride in cultivating vibrant blooms and tranquil green spaces that reflected her gentle spirit. Her talent for flower arrangement was equally admired – each creation a testament to her artistry and attention to detail. She also had a passion for traveling, embracing new cultures and experiences with curiosity and grace. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Charles C. Bloom; her daughter, Vella M. Bloom; and her grandchildren, Kyle Bloom, Ryan Bloom, Andrew Bloom, and Caroline Bloom-Heathcote. May her loving memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
