Obituary of Nancy Craddock Brown

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Nancy Craddock Brown, age 89, of Williamsburg, died peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Sentara Williamsburg surrounded by her family. A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved beautiful things. An avid collector of antiques and china and an accomplished china painter, she painted with studios in Miami and Daytona Beach, FL. She took extraordinary comfort in her faith and gained her strength from the women that raised her. She was born December 27, 1933 in Nashville, TN to Ollie Clair Craddock and Nancy Elizabeth Stephens. She spent her childhood between Tennessee and Homestead, FL, graduating from Homestead High School. A lifelong Methodist, she met James Lee Brown of Homestead, where their families walked to church together. They married in 1952. They built a life in Homestead, Daytona Beach and Miami then moved to their beautiful home on Queens Lake in Williamsburg in 1999. Nancy is survived by her daughter Ann Brown-Hailey (Chris Hailey), grandchildren Blair Hailey and William Hailey, all of Williamsburg; and her brother, Sonny Craddock (Julie) of Dothan, AL, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jim; daughters Elizabeth Brown and Susan Mackenzie; and her sister Doris Harris. The family thanks the staff of Patriot’s Colony Convalescent Care for the outstanding care Nancy received there the last two years. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 7 at 2:00 PM at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Burial in Homestead will be private. As she requested, donations can be made to Heifer International, www.heifer.org. Online condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
