Nurhan Odabasi was born in Istanbul, Turkey on May 25, 1930. He came to the United States in his twenties where he met his beloved wife, Lepa. Together, they created a life and raised three children on Long Island, NY. Nurhan never met a stranger. A simple 'hello' would often turn into a lengthy conversation with stories, laughs and a new friend. He was very proud to be an American, and loved this country. He was well-traveled and spoke five languages. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved to Williamsburg, VA in 1996 to be near their daughter, Lisa. He enjoyed cooking, spending afternoons in Colonial Williamsburg and doing activities with his family.
Nurhan passed away on February 23, 2017 and was preceded in death by his wife Lepa. He is survived by his sister Sona Oskay, his children, Dr. Lisa Odabasi, her husband Robert Alpino, Liana O'Connor, her husband Tim, and Darian Odabasi, his wife Rachel, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home Sunday, February 26 from 4-6pm with a memorial service starting at 6pm. Donations can be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, williamsburghospice.org. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.nelsencares.com.
