Olivia Phelps Naylor Mersing

Olivia was born on February 10, 1937 in Cumberland, MD. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jack Mersing; children, Sharon Gauthier (Raymond) of Williamsburg, VA, Robert Mersing (Susan) of Neosho, MO, Rebecca Church (Scott) of Fremont, CA; and a sister, Mary N. Richardson of Williamsburg, VA. In addition, she is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Singleton Townshend and Elizabeth Phelps Mitchell Naylor; and a sister, Anne Naylor Grant.

She retired from The College of William & Mary in 2001 after 24 ½ years, was an active member of York River Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA and was a charter member and Collegian of the Woman of the Moose #1755. Some of her hobbies included traveling, crocheting, cross-stitching and reading.

A celebration of Olivia’s life will be at York River Baptist Church, 8201 Croaker Rd., Williamsburg, VA, on Saturday, October 25. The family will receive guests and have a reception at 1pm prior to the service at 3pm.
