Nelsen Williamsburg

Pamela Ruth Hodge Hedgepeth passed away on April 24, 2024, peacefully embracing eternity after bravely fighting cancer for five years. Throughout her 2 ½ month stay at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then at home, Pam's unwavering courage never waned, and she never uttered one complaint. She brought her positive and resilient spirit to everything she did. Born in Williamsburg, VA in 1954, Pam spent most all of her life there. After graduating from York Academy, she proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, stationed in Puerto Rico and Connecticut. Returning to Williamsburg, she worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and later reconnected with and married Gary N Hedgepeth in July 1983. Together, they raised and cherished two beloved daughters, Mary Katherine and Courtney. Pam was a longtime member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and, in more recent years, found a loving place at James City Community Church. Her sweet smile and warm embrace endeared her to everyone she met. Pam's love knew no bounds, as she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her husband, daughters, parents, brother, cousins, extended family and countless friends. Even in the face of cancer, Pam's kindness, hope, and radiant smile never faltered. In 2019, she and Gary relocated to Baltimore for her cancer treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the medical team, known as "Team Hedgepeth," provided unwavering support. Pam triumphed over lung cancer and enjoyed nearly five glorious years after this challenging diagnosis. Pam is survived by her husband of 41 years, Gary, daughters Katherine (Chris) and Courtney (Erin), brothers-in-law Dennis (Sandi) and Van (Janis), sisters-in-law Pam (David) and Gail, her beloved nephew Ian, numerous cousins, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Hodge and Gregory Hodge, and her brother Robert Hodge. The Hedgepeth family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams at Johns Hopkins, Sentara Williamsburg, Patriot’s Colony, Hospice Care, and the Veterans Administration for their compassion and care. A visitation will take place on Tuesday April 30th from 6:00-8:00pm and a celebration of Pam's life, conducted by Pastor Sam Goins, will take place on Wednesday May 1st at 2:00pm both at Nelsen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to James City Community Church in Williamsburg are appreciated.
