

Robert Paul Kramer, 96, gained his heavenly wings on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Thelma Kramer; sisters, Ginny and Ruth; son, David; daughter-in-law, Terri; and grandson, David, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mabel Anne Kramer; three children, William Kramer (wife Terri), Sarah Lambert (husband Stephen) and Catherine Gallagher (husband Rory); nine grandchildren, Eric Kramer (wife Kim), Emma Lambert, Elizabeth Lambert, Rachael Pia (husband Nicholas), Jeff Kramer, Holly Kramer, Annabel and Caitlin Gallagher and Makayla Shearon; 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many other family members and friends.
Robert loved the Lord and had a strong faith. He was a proud and dedicated veteran of the United States Navy after graduating in 1950 with a BS degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He served in many officer ranks, retiring after 33 years in 1977 as Chief Commanding Officer at the Naval Station in Rota, Spain. Over his years in the Navy, he was awarded many commendations including the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, European Clasp/National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal of Armed Forces, as well as a Medal for Expert Marksmanship.
Post retirement, he worked at ACE Hardware for many years, and also taught Math at Lafayette High School. He had a love for the game of golf, playing on over 20+ courses in the U.S. and other countries including Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Philippines, Taiwan, Spain, Saigon, Bermuda, Italy, France, New Mexico, St. Croix, Puerto Rico and Honolulu, among many. He also thrived in building and flying gas-powered remote-controlled model airplanes, with membership in the Colonial Virginia Aeromodelers Club.
He will forever be remembered for the love he expressed through his kind ways, his devotion, commitment and support to his wife and family.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188, with a private graveside military service to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
