He was born on September 3, 1949 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. His father was in the Navy, so his early childhood was spent in Texas, California and Washington state before coming back to Virginia and settling in 1959. He attended Larrymore Elementary, Azalea Gardens Middle and graduated from Norview High School Class of 1968. He worked for the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in high school and throughout college joking that he had mowed every blade of grass at the gardens. Roger continued his education, becoming a three-time graduate from Old Dominion University obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education-History and later a Master’s degree in Media/Communications and one in Adult Education. He spent his whole 38-year career working at Tidewater Community College as a Media Librarian within the Audio Visual Services Department and later as a research Librarian retiring in 2011 as a Professor Emeritus. He was very proud to have started the Phi Sigma Phi Fraternity at Tidewater Community College-Chesapeake Campus and served as an advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Roger was an extrovert and loved talking to people. He ran a DJ business for 15 year helping others celebrate weddings and parties with many great stories to share. He never met a stranger and dedicated many hours of his life to community service. He was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church and later at First Lutheran Church Norfolk. He served on the Boards of the Old Dominion Darden College and the Old Dominion Alumni Association, Grassfield Ruritans, Chesapeake Environmental Council, American Heart Association walk volunteer, Paint Your Heart Out Chesapeake participant and Clean the Bay Day participant where he brought his daughters to help out with him.
In his free time, he enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals baseball games, coin collecting, model car collecting, 5K walks, bowling and in his retirement, he picked up pen turning. He was always happy spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed time down on the Outer Banks.
He is preceded in death by parents, Thomas L. Fuller and Mary K. Fuller along with an infant brother, Thomas Fuller, Jr.
In his memory he leaves his wife just shy of 43 years of marriage, Nancy Watson Fuller; two daughters, Emily Diana Zeitler (Johnathan) and Sarah Jane Oliveira (Jonathan); four grandchildren, Nathan Zeitler, Mary Zeitler, Lucille Zeitler and Evelyn Oliveira.
