Susie King Sheldon

Sue was born June 14, 1924, the daughter of Annie and Esther King, on a small farm near Sunny Side in Cumberland County, VA. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 67 years, Oscar Cecil “Mike” Sheldon; a loving daughter-in-law, Jean Sheldon; a sister, Polly; three brothers, Booker, E.N., and Caroll King; sisters-in-law, Roxie, Ida, Virginia and Francis Sheldon, Nellie Stonnell, Helen Jennings and Evlyn King.

She is survived by her son, Sidney “Mickey” Sheldon and wife, Elaine; two grandsons, Steven Sheldon and his wife Sharon of Dolphin, VA and David Sheldon of Center Cross, VA; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Howerton of Dolphin, VA and Jonathan Sheldon of Kingsport, TN; one step-great-granddaughter, Whitney Davis of Raleigh, NC; one step-great-grandson, Chase Mayer of King and Queen, VA; a beloved sister, Phyllis “Philly” Landrum of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” King of Red Oak, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sue was a longtime faithful member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed many dear friends. During her lifetime, Sue especially enjoyed being a homemaker, family get-togethers, fishing with family, and traveling with her husband, Mike.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg on Thursday, January 1 at 10:00 AM, with burial immediately following at James City Chapel Cemetery at Norge, VA.
