Suzanne Foster Dell passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends on February 11, 2025 at the age of 81. Suzie was a loving wife, mother of two wonderful and successful children, grandmother of five, as well as great grandmother of five. Her husband and family were her life. Always a gracious hostess, she made everyone feel welcome and included. Suzie always had her friends, family and community at heart and left an indelible mark on all she touched with her warmth and generosity. Suzie attended the University of Maryland and met then Midshipman Julius B. (Bill) Dell, a blind date, while visiting at the Naval Academy in Annapolis MD. Suzie and Bill were married February 27, 1965, in the Chapel in Pensacola Florida, while Bill was completing Naval Aviation flight training.
Suzie was the quintessential military service wife, always thinking of and helping other Naval Service personnel with the rigors of service to their country. One might say she was a force of nature appreciated by all. Her expertise in Interior Design, Meeting Planning and Non-profit Development paved the way for her many years of service as a Navy wife, creating home and community in 27 duty stations across the globe. Upon moving to Williamsburg in 1999, Suzie continued her community service as a founding member of the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. She had four great loves - her extended family, remodeling historic homes, walking on the beach and ballroom dancing. Williamsburg was the perfect place to enjoy them all.
Suzie is survived by the forever love of her life and husband of 60 years, CAPT. Julius B. (Bill) Dell, USN (Ret.), children Deborah Ann Tisler (Andrew) and Kevin David Dell, MD, PhD (Lauren, DVM); grandchildren Catherine Walker (CJ), LT David Tisler, USN (Melissa), CPT Mark Tisler, USA; Beth Anne Dell and Becky Dell; great-grandchildren Marianna, Philip and Gus Tisler, and Liam and Sammie Walker; sisters Ann Smith and Anita Young and brother Richard Foster. She was preceded in death by her parents, CAPT. William C Foster, USCG (Ret.) and Helen Marie Foster.
Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers the family asks remembrances to be made to Williamsburg Hospice House.
