William proudly served the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer during WWII and the Korean War. During his military career, he earned many honors, including: the Army Overseas Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal, two National Defense Medals, the Army Occupation Medal for Japan and Germany, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the 4 Tours European Campaign Medal, and the U.S. Air Assault Badge.
Following his time in the Army, he spent 20 years of Civil Service at Ft. Eustis. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid pinochle player. He made many great memories camping in his RV, as well as boating and fishing. He also loved his dogs.
He will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg on Sunday, December 12 from 2-4pm. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
