He served in the US Airforce for eight years, and then five years with the Lansing Police Department. Jim's love for people continued with a 28 year career with the Williamston Police department; twenty-two of those years as Chief of Police. While serving on the department, he was the Acting City Manager three different times over the course of his career.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Franklin and Marie LaClear, son Robert (Robin), and granddaughter Morgan Mulinski. Surviving are his sister Laurie LaClear, daughter Michele (Brian) Daughenbaugh, step-sons Marty (Tracy) Haller and Jacob Haller, eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the community.
A celebration of life will be held September 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Williamston Fraternal Order of Eagles, 835 High St, Williamston MI, 48895.
Officiating Jim's celebration of life will be Jeff Hall; former Williamston Police Officer and the best of friend to Jim.
