James Dillon Cherry

James Dillon Cherry, 83, died Tuesday, May 2, 2012. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Candace Worth officiating; burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens.

Mr Cherry was born in Martin County on June 17, 1928, son of the late James Russell and Euzelia Harris Cherry. In 1989 he retired as Dean of Administrative and Fiscal Services at Alamance Community College and moved to Bear Grass. He was a member of the Bear Grass Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

On November 28, 1958 he married Louise Wynn Cherry who survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are sons Brad Cherry and Debbie of McLeansville, and John Simmons and wife Wanda of Graham, daughter Betty Maddry and husband Jimmy of Knightdale, brothers Richard Cherry and Jerry Cherry both of Bear Grass, sisters Lib Smith, Patsy Owens and husband Calvin, and Margaret Cherry all of Bear Grass, and Janie Coltrain of Williamston, grandchildren Fallon Lillis and Molly Ellington, and great grandchildren Taylor Maddry, Casey Lillis, Kelsey Ellington, and Ava Ellington.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home and other times at the residence 1015 Cherry Lane Bear Grass NC.
